Brief Profile: Prof. Soumyajit Roy is a distinguished materials chemist, deep-tech innovator, and serial academic–entrepreneur, currently Professor of Chemical Sciences at IISER Kolkata and Founder of Solaire Initiative Pvt. Ltd. He has led globally recognized research programmes in advanced materials, catalysis, sustainable energy, soft-oxometalates, and Raman-based art authentication, with over 110 publications, multiple patents, and international collaborations spanning India, China, Europe, and the USA. A committed architect of innovation and translational research, he has guided multiple technology pipelines from lab to market, most notably the OM REDOX Oxygen Maker, selected among “75 Innovations in 75 Years” and launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. His leadership spans Institute Innovation Council (IIC) initiatives, GIAN programmes, major international consortia, and cross-disciplinary deep-tech ventures. Prof. Roy is already an active mentor within the IIM Calcutta innovation ecosystem, currently mentoring Agni Tech, a startup incubated under IIMCIP. With extensive experience in R&D strategy, techno-commercial validation, IP development, business model refinement, and international ecosystem building, he brings a rare confluence of scientific depth, entrepreneurial insight, and global vision ideally suited for nurturing early-stage innovators at IIM Calcutta.
